Evaluating oaks as climate-resilient reservoirs for urban biodiversity

Wright's PhD work focuses on the impacts of climate change on trees and arthropods, specifically in urban environments where warming is exacerbated by large amounts of impervious surfaces. Her research aims to predict the impacts of future warming on oak trees, many of which are commonly planted in cities and provide food and shelter for diverse moth and butterfly species that are essential to food webs. Wright is working with collaborators to construct a field experiment allowing her to raise temperatures to levels predicted for cities in the future and measure the impacts of these temperatures on oak seedlings.

To advance the field of urban forestry by encouraging students to study the planning, management, horticulture and ecology of urban forests, and the effect of healthy urban forests on people and the environment.
