Urban ForestryCourtney Scott
2024 The Garden Club of America Zone VI Fellowship in Urban Forestry
Soil Space Limitation and Mycorrhizal Fungal Abundance: Urban Tree and Soil Feedback
Scott will continue her dissertation on interactions between urban trees and soils. Field studies will be conducted in Athens, GA that assess the impact of soil disturbance on tree condition and growth. Scott will evaluate how wastewater treatment, construction, and management alter tree properties like growth, canopy condition, infestation/infection, and injury coupled with soil properties like biogeochemical cycling, organic matter composition, and porosity. Working with homeowners and land managers will deepen her understanding of community forestry and arboriculture. Results will provide insight into improving management strategies and global system modeling for urban trees and soils.
